３月、4月といえば桜が咲き始める春の季節、そして日本では3月が卒業式のシーズンであり、4月が入学式のシーズンですね♬🌸🌸🌸ところが、これは日本独自の文化であり、アメリカでは春に学年が変わることはあまりありません。アメリカで暮らしていると、3月・4月はバケーションシーズンをどう過ごすか考える時期だったりします。春に卒業式や入学式をやるのは全国共通ではないのです。

基本的には学年が変わる際、特に長い休暇があることもなく普段通りに授業が行われますが、アメリカでは多くの学校が6月に卒業式が行われます。地域によって異なりますが、その後に２,３ヶ月のお休みがあり、夏休み明けの9月に新学年をスタートします。ただし、長い休暇中全員が遊び呆けているわけではありません。この2,３ヶ月間は学生にとって重要な時期で、学力が足りない人や、早く卒業したい人は、サマーセッション（サマースクール）という授業を受けたりします。

この長い休暇は、アメリカの子供達にとって頭をリフレッシュさせたり、次の新学年に向けて準備をする期間でもあります。皆さんの印象に残っている卒業式はどんな感じでしたでしょうか？

There is quite the difference from Japan and the United States with regards to Graduation Day. In Japan, graduation for schools often occurs towards the end of March, with the new school year starting in April.

Typically, there is no break associated with the change and the school year continues like normal. But in the United States, the school year ends in June, followed by a few months summer break. When the new school year starts, it is in September.

The long gap from June to September gives a feeling that something new is starting. Plus, students are more refreshed after taking a long break away from school. Do you remember your graduation? What was it like?
