今年もやって来ます、わくわくドキドキ(？)のバレンタインデー。

日本では特に、女の子達と女性達に馴染み深い日かもしれませんが、この時季にお店にたくさん並ぶ様々なチョコレートを見ると、何だかウキウキしてきますね。本命チョコに義理チョコ、友達チョコなど、色んな形で色んな方へバレンタインデーのチョコレートやギフトが渡されますが、最近は、この時季限定販売のチョコを自分用に買って楽しむ方も、割といらっしゃるようです。
In Japan, it may be a day especially familiar to girls and women, but when you see the wide variety of chocolates lined up in shops during this season, it’s hard not to feel a little excited. From “true-love chocolates” and “obligation chocolates” to chocolates for friends, Valentine’s chocolates and gifts are given to many different people in many different ways. Recently, more and more people also enjoy buying limited-edition chocolates just for themselves during this season.
日本のバレンタインデーは、女の子/女性が、好きな男の子/男性にチョコレートを贈るのが基本になっていますが、他の国々では、バレンタインデーに男性が自分の好きな女性や恋人に花束などのプレゼントを贈るのが、昔から主流のようです。

アメリカで、バレンタインデーの時季に使われる言葉の１つに、”Secret admirer”というのがあり、これは「隠れファン」、「ひそかに思いを寄せている人」という意味で、匿名でお手紙やギフトを贈る際に使う言葉だそうです。シャイで気恥ずかしい方は、この匿名でカードやギフトを贈ってもいいかもしれませんね。
In the United States, one phrase often used around Valentine’s Day is “secret admirer.” It means someone who quietly has feelings for another person and sends a letter or gift anonymously. If you’re shy or feel a bit embarrassed, sending a card or gift anonymously might be a nice idea.
