Are you familiar with Japanese Kotowaza? Do you frequently use them? Maybe you only use them now and again, in very specific situations. Either way, they are a fun addition to our language learning journey and, at times, perfectly express something that would otherwise take a long time to explain.<\/p>\n
In English, they are called \u201cproverbs\u201d \u2013 They are said to have originally came from Egypt and some even believe them to be \u201cdivine\u201d in nature \u2013 Wisdom dispensed in bitesize phrases directly from God. Whether that is true or not, let\u2019s dive into some of the most famous, and some lesser known, Japanese Kotowaza.<\/p>\n
Often proverbs are very difficult to directly translate from Japanese to English, or vise versa, so please be careful when considering using them!<\/p>\n

Translation: Even some bugs eat Knotweed.<\/p>\n
Meaning: Everyone like\u2019s different things. People\u2019s preferences depend on the person.<\/p>\n
English version: \u201cEach to their own\u201d or \u201cTo each their own\u201d or \u201cOne man\u2019s trash is another man\u2019s treasure\u201d<\/p>\n

Meaning: Buddha is one who is said to have achieved a state of unending bliss \u2013 freedom of suffering. Sometimes knowing about a situation causes us to suffer, not knowing and not having too much information can mean our mind is simple and free.<\/p>\n
English version: \u201cIgnorance is bliss\u201d \u2013 Do you agree?<\/p>\n
